About the Band

The Stephen Philip Harvey Jazz Orchestra (SPHJO) is a seventeen-piece ensemble showcasing the bold, contemporary large ensemble works of saxophonist, composer, and conductor Stephen Philip Harvey. Featuring a rotating roster of world-class musicians from across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, SPHJO merges dynamic orchestration with cinematic flair.

Their 2022 debut, Smash! (Next Level/Outside in Music), introduced Harvey’s original compositions inspired by the vibrant worlds of comic books and superheroes. Continuing this imaginative arc, their forthcoming live album, Multiversal: Live at BOP STOP—recorded at the acclaimed Cleveland venue and set for release in August 2025—offers a super-powered, action-packed follow-up that redefines the possibilities of America’s original ensemble: the jazz orchestra.
